Birthdays always get me hankering for a new dress. Clearly it's a throw back from childhood when all the little girls would rock up in their party dresses and party tights. I remember at the height of my childhood social calendar I was circulating about three party dresses, with a choice of black, white or the most gorgeous baby pink tights I would love to own now. They were sheer and had pink bows on them, I can remember just being in awe of them. Looking back at old photographs now details of these dresses seem to be rebirthed in Luella's designs, perhaps this is why her dresses are so popular now.
People may argue that dresses are not 'recession friendly'; LBDs aside, certain dresses are a statement and it is obvious if you are on an outfit repeat. Screw it, I can't afford to buy anything anyway so let's indulge the fantasy. I don't know if it just me, but when I've got a case of the blues, retail therapy is an obvious solution, but when I've got the mean reds, only a dress will do. My high street favourites are in from Miss Selfridge. I don't know how to save pics from their site so I'll have to drop a couple of links I'm afraid:
There are tougher trends going on with dresses of course, but for a party when the sun is shining, I like these two. The second especially has scope to be accessorised and I love the neutrality of the grey.
Here are some random images of dresses, some iconic, some personal.
