Tex-mexi dress

Howdy partners!

For my sister's birthday she had a mexican fiesta. There were lethal tequila drinks, incredible edibles and a pinata (my contribution). As I love a theme dress, I finally had an opportunity to wear my cowboy-style denim shirt dress (from an East End thrift store fill-a-bag). I teamed it with the new belt I got for my birthday which was very tex-mex- cowboy buckle but made of a colourful striped material remniscient of a poncho (from Beyond Retro). I finished the outfit off with my tatty devine day of the dead necklace and silver snakeskin high heels (good old M&S), as I felt the dress needed sophisitcated shoes to contend with its voluminosity. The close-up is from a little fun shoot my friend Elle and I did in October, hence the difference in hair colour.

Bit of a boring one, this is basically a rainy day variation on this outfit. 

I got these spider collar tips for Christmas from my flatmate, but as they are kind of weighty I couldn't just put them on any old shirt. Recently I found a good shirt in the River Island sale for £12 which I knew would be perfect because it came with its own weird rhinestine collar tips. So finally I could start wearing them #shinfo.

The boots are from Zara. The lipstick is MAC in Pink Popcorn.I got it for a quid but I'm not really sure it looks good on me, still trying it out.It looks a lot like that Dolce & Gabanna Purple Pearl in these photos.

I've had this black jumper with white collar for ages (bought when I worked at the Sue Ryder shop) but as its a bit short (as the pic demonstrates, I am not the thinnest person) I feel self conscious wearing it with anything that is not high waisted. It is super soft and a dream to wear. I have dabbled with it recently and left it at my parents house a few weeks back. While home this weekend I needed a sort of semi-casual outfit to wear for a birthday drinks; I found this jumper hanging in my wardrobe and my pleather shorts in a drawer and hey presto, an outfit was born. It's not the best but it did the trick, paired with my little snake print booties.

(re)vamp

For some reason I haven't blogged this black velour dress before. It was £1 from Sue Ryder in Worcester Park. I had someone take it up as it was an odd length but it came in handy the other week when I was at home and had nothing to wear out dancing. I don't suit strapless styles so I wore this Zara shirt over the top.

 

I don't have a very good picture of me in it, so here is my sister wearing it for some shots I did for my MA magazine in 2008, they show off the shape of it a bit better. And also highlight my utter lack of styling, make-up and photography skills!

protect ya neck

my other bolo tie from the Sue Ryder charity shop. I'm like accessories central at the mo. Apparently this shirt (Primark, £10) is in Look magazine with several ways to wear, but with a bolo tie is not one of them, swish. 

The lipstick I'm wearimg (MAC, 'Rebel') does not go with the shirt but I asked my make-up artist friend Simone to try out an exciting lipstick shade on me that I wouldn't normally wear and she picked this, I love it but don't know if I'm brave enough to wear it!

I've also rediscovered this suede patchwork bag which I wanted to show as it is from the little RSPCA shop in Upminster and was only £2.50. When I worked in a charity shop they always used to laugh at me because I woud save all the old patchwork bags for the vintage sales I did for the charity, they thought they were really naff and old lady but they always sold!
